I always have a tin of these treats in the pantry for when my Granddoggies come to visit. They are chockfull of doggie(and human) superfoods like sweet potato and turmeric with the added bonus of not leaving your fingers smelling like liver treats. My daughter enjoys eating them as much as her dogs do. They are real-life Scooby snacks.
“There are some dogs which, when you meet them, remind you that, despite thousands of years of man-made evolution, every dog is still only two meals away from being a wolf. These dogs advance deliberately, purposefully, the wilderness made flesh, their teeth yellow, their breath a-stink, while in the distance their owners witter, “He’s an old soppy really, just poke him if he’s a nuisance,” and in the green of their eyes the red campfires of the Pleistocene gleam and flicker.”
–Neil Gaimon
At the age of four our Greek friend George’s dog attacked me at a dinner party. Firstly, I know what your thinking, all greek men are named George. Not true there is also Yani and Nick.
My cheek hung to chin.
It was late winter when the rain washed clouds of February are giving way to the poppy petal days of March.
The seas were stormy, the waves were high. No boats ran from our little rocky island to Piraeus.
The doctor was unavailable or at least not sober. You knew that Spring had truly arrived when the doctor wend his way down the mountain from the monastery where he wintered, drinking with the monks.
To my rescue came our friend Red-Cross-Criss-Cross, a Kiwi veteran of the Korean war, with his trusty medic’s kit. He used butterfly bandages to pull my cuts together and iodine to combat infection.
The second sign of spring was Apokries (Carnival) I didn’t want to miss the wonderful parade and so my mom stuck chicken feathers in a head band that she sewed for me and covered the rest of my face with iodine. Iodine stains the skin a bright reddish purple. My costume was as a “red indian” as they said in those days.
I came away from that experience with two scars and no fear of dogs, such is the elasticity of childhood.
“If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and man.” –Mark Twain

Awesome!
I am going to make these as little training treats to give the Dogs!
Thanks Johanne!
I use my smallest cutters so each one is tiny and I can give them out freely. We trained my daughter’s two bullies with these.
These must have made Sterling drool even more than usual…
As if that were possible!
Cat treats next?
Nori treats? I’ll get on that ASAP.
…and every human is about two woofs away from being a wolf too….
Grrrrrr
Our cats are drawn to umami flavors. Nori, Soy-sauce-marinated tofu, bbq-flavored soy-based fake meats, instant ramen noodles cooked with the msg-laden flavor pack that comes with the product etc.
Your cats have a palate similar to mine. Nymeria loves dark leafy greens especially Kale. Dimitri only eats flies and cat food.
Greetings I am so delighted I found your webpage, I really found you by accident, while I was browsing on Aol for something else, Regardless I am here now and would just like to say many thanks for a marvelous post and a all round thrilling blog (I also love the theme/design), I don’t have time to read it all at the moment but I have saved it and also added in your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read a lot more, Please do keep up the fantastic job.
Thank you for visiting. I’m glad you enjoy the blog.
I have no shame in saying I eat as many of these as I feed to my puppies. One for Sterling, one for Bella, two for me. Oh wait… thats more than I feed my dogs. Scooby dooby doo.
Oh there is an old saying like that. I can’t remember it. Argh, must drink coffee and remember.
Can not wait to try out the recipe . My senior Groodle will just love them.
One query is that in the recipe it says only to roll out half the dough.
I presume you just repeat process with other half.
Hi Carol, I would love to see your Groodle munch on a batch of these!!! Yes roll out the second half and bake the same as the first. Let me know how he likes them.
